Introduction to the series
Action takes place in South Korea, in a near future.
Several individuals are recruited by an unknown organization, represented by
a good-looking and well-dressed young man who plays
ddakji
with them in the subway, while betting small amounts of money. Actually, people
who the recruiter plays with are not randomly chosen - a deep investigation
on each of them has been conducted by the organization he's working for,
and they have been selected because of their addiction to gambling and having
accumulated huge amounts of debt they cannot repay.
After the ddakji session, the young man tells each of them they might earn a lot more
if they are willing to participate to another round of games. If they agree,
they are given a meeting point in town, at night, where they are picked up
by a van inside which they are put to sleep with a stunning gas. Next, they
are driven to an unknown place where they wake up with 455 other participants.
Then begins a series of trials, inspired by children's schoolyard games, but
where losing has deadly consequences.
The series denounces the flaws of modern human "civilization" and all the
perversion it has been unable to eliminate, in a rather straightforward,
crude and disturbing manner.
It criticizes the rich, who organize such games just to get entertained - but
(and it's quite unusual) also the poor. Petty thieves or swindlers,
unreasonably indebted, unable to manage their lives and no less manipulative
than those rich they hate.
Money, omnipresent in the series, is the ultimate drug for both groups. Any
threshold might be crossed to be able to earn always more.
The other theme of Squid Game is violence. How we, human beings, are attracted
by it and how merciless our modern society is. Noadays everything has becomed fueled
by violence, including children's games.
By the way, "squid game" refers to one that was very popular during the 1970s
and the 1980s among children in South Korea. A brief presentation of this game
is given at the beginning of the first episode, in the first season.

Netflix used to be great...
I decided to bring online this page when Netflix removed the download feature
in their PC/Windows application. I was using it a lot in order to play
videos offline and/or other devices. When I realized I was not the only one doing this
quite often, I decided to share my videos of their most popular series, to help others
facing the same issue.
I can't really explain what is this habit in the 21st century
to make things get worse. I used to run an online services company
in the past, and we were committed to improve and do always better for our customers,
aiming to bring more for less, not the other way around!
In the beginning, Netflix was great: no subscriptions plans full of ads
(there's not enough ads on the Internet already??), and a widely open viewing system.
But as enriched uranium, it depletes over time... I've got absolutely no idea of what is
happening in the brain of people who are operating this business, but it seems to go
counter-clockwise.
So as always, one random guy on the Internet has to fix what a billion-dollar
company broke...
